I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Anne Graham, Managing Director from McPhail HLG Financial Planning. If you ever get the chance to meet Anne I would strongly recommend you do, she is one the most delightful and professional women you could ever meet. During our interview https://www.srscc.com.au/page_radioarticles.html Anne talks about how winning the following awards have helped both her and her business achieve the success it is. Anne has won the following:
Finalist in AFA Adviser of the year ward 2011
Securitor National Adviser of the year 2011
Money Management Adviser of the year 2009
Smart Investor Financial Planning Masterclass Top 50 2007-2009
FPA Vlaue of Advice – Viv 2006
Pretty impressive list isn’t it? when asked exactly how these awards have helped, Anne explains that it has on three levels:
- Existing clients feel more validated on their choose of financial planner
- Attracting new clients because it is a point of difference
- Giving the team confidence that they are working for a good business
At a time when existing clients are perhaps looking for that validation or new clients are seeking out the best advice possible advertising that you are an award winning adviser is good for business. Whilst clients may not understand the relevance of the award, if they are comparing two advisers, one with awards and one without, I suspect the former would be the obvious option. I know of advisers who have won awards in the past who have felt embarrassed to show them off to clients because they don’t want to ‘big note themselves’. I would encourage any of you who have awards to shout it out, let your clients know and for those of you who haven’t ever thought about the importance of awards, perhaps times are changing and you just might consider them.
