The other day I was talking with a Financial Adviser who was extremely keen to build his business brand. His Financial Advice business had been around for less than ten years but he was extremely pleased with how it had grown. However, he recognized that if he didn’t take action soon with his marketing, he wouldn’t be experiencing the growth he has had to date.
He explained that his business had been around 3 other Advisers and 5 support staff. He threw away a comment that as soon as I heard it, I grabbed on to it. He said, “the team are really good here but to be honest I don’t really think they understand what it is we actually do for clients.”
You can imagine my response! If your team aren’t able to articulate what it is you all do, then what is it you all do all day?!
Your employees are the nerve center of your brand, especially in today’s digital world, use them correctly and they will spread your brand faster through their virtual networks than you can say ‘thank you’!
This topic poses a few concerns though. The first is the culture of the business, a topic all on it’s own. However, for the purpose of this blog, I’ll keep it short – of those businesses that are viewed as successful amongst their peers, culture plays a huge part – they have built a client centric culture, one which is endorsed, supported and driven by their employees.
The other important message I would like to get across is that your employees, once they understand what it is you all truly do, can be your biggest brand advocates through their social media networks. What they say about the brand verses what pure adverting says is worth a great deal more – I would suspect that a great number of your employees are using social media? Given that, think about ways in which they can deliver your brand message to their trusted followers.
I wonder, how many of your employees act as your brand advocates, do you know? do you follow each other? do you share each others content?
I hear of many Financial Advisers who are keen to grow their audiences which is a great thing but remember (depending on your business) you probably have a web of people already who can build your brand online too.
