OK, things are starting to get a little too serious around here!!!
Lighten up a little, relax, get rid of your stress and discover how much easier it is to communicate!
Did you know this fact? Laughter and stress cannot belong together; you cannot be laughing and be stressed at the same time. Making decisions about your finances and your business is a stressful situation. Laughter gets rid of stress. Try it – are you stressed right now (gosh I hope not your reading my blog!) but, if you are, try smiling, big massive smile, still stressed?
By using humor, lighthearted not bang bang jokes, it can turn a potentially stressful situation into a positive experience. By changing your attitude, the way you are standing or sitting and your approach, you have the power to change the situation. So imagine, you are facing a client who is feeling stressed perhaps even nervous and not 100% comfortable sharing all their financial wows with you just yet. Before you meet with someone check yourself first. Start by smiling. Check your own tension levels. Share a story and laugh easily, not a belly laugh but a relaxing at ease laugh that will change the situation.
Much has been written about the success of storytelling, we’ve been doing it for centuries, but don’t underestimate the value of humor with people too. Humor opens doors and allows for persuasion. Laughter puts people at ease and creates engagement resulting in people opening up, sharing and talking. It allows people to say to themselves, “I can relate to that” or “I’ve experienced that, he understands me”.
But don’t limit your humor to face to face conversations. Again, much has been documented about the success of jokes, motivational quotes and the like with social media – why? because we like to be entertained when we’re not expecting it!
Images, pictures, stories, cartoons – all excellent communication tools you can use to put your clients at ease = increases engagement and a positive outcome.
