I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Mark Rattigan the other day (you can listen to the interview) from Merideon Wealth Strategies. Mark is a multi award winning adviser and when you hear him speak you can understand why. Compared to other Advisers Mark is recently new to the industry yet he understands the importance of constantly positioning his business and marketing his value – as he says, they have more business than they can handle at the moment -he has to be doing something right!
Interestingly Mark reveals that referral partners are reluctant to develop formal relationships with Advisers since the GFC (nothing new there) however, he’s worked hard to develop informal relationships and has created cross promotions, seminars and training which is now paying off for all involved. It’s determination and turning up everyday that pushes your business forward (my words not Mark’s) but that’s exactly what he’s done.
In the interview Mark explains that he’s a big advocate for networking and believes it has been his most successful marketing activity. He’s a strong believer in finding out how you can help others first,focusing on them rather than yourself. Another one of his tips was to keep an open mind, don’t just think about Mortgage Brokers and Accountants as possible referral partners, who else could you work with?
When you listen to the interview you’ll learn it’s not only Mark’s business acumen that has propelled his advice business faster than what he expected but also his attitude; you can hear his passion and commitment. I wish Mark all the success in future but I don’t think he needs my best wishes, I think he’s nailing it just fine.
